disrupting life and death

June 12, 20233 min read

Disrupting life & death.

Imagine facing dying, by designing a situation in which you surround yourself with people who are going to go the distance with you, but as a way of transforming themselves.

That’s what my Brave New Girl guest this week, educator Carol Sanford is preparing the ground to do. For over forty years she has pioneered regenerative design in business & life, and now she is turning the framework to her dying process. She has ALS (or Motor Neuron Disease) and knows that she will probably die this year.

She has gathered round her people who are prepared to learn from the experience for self-transformation, whilst she plans to let go like the Sages. As in life so in death, Carol is trusting in the source of her deep self, to take her through whatever is to come.

Even though she is losing her voice with the ALS, Carol agreed to speak with me once I’d proved that I was prepared to disrupt my own thinking.

She’s not a self-styled Positive Contrarian for nothing.

She knows that when she helps us to break open all the ideas we have stood comfortably by, that is when we can really start to reach our true selves and our place in the planet’s living system.

REGENERATIVE THINKING

Somewhere between ancient wisdom & the modern world we can find our true minds.

BRAVE NEW GIRL podcast

Carol Sanford, a consistently recognized disruptor & positive contrarian working with Fortune 500 & new economy executives in designing & leading systemic business change & design.

She’s worked with great leaders of businesses such as Google, DuPont, Intel, P&G & Seventh Generation & her award-winning books are required reading at leading business schools including Harvard, Stanford, Haas Berkeley & MIT.

 Our conversation covers:

- What is 'regeneration' in life, business - from the work That Carol does with leaders/teams/organisations

- How she helps leaders move from a behaviourist & humanist practice into a more living systems & developmental way of relating, working, being

- How we stop trying to be 'heroes' and start to flow as part of a much larger 'purpose' (nature, universe)

- How her maternal grandfather was half Mohawk – and how that, and other ancient wisdoms influenced her regenerative approach

- How feel our way back into the way of nature and its living systems instead of trying to ‘sustain’ or ‘save’ the planet

- Having ALS (in UK known as Motor Neuron Disease) we talk about how her regenerative approach has given her a framework for herself and those around her for the time she has left & her plans for your passing.

Thank you so much Carol for your dedication to living systems, and for passing on your teachings through all your books, articles and podcasts so that we too may learn to live and work in this way in order to get back in alignment with nature and have a more hopeful existence where we work with the essence of who we are as humans in harmony with the planet.
